Struggling with one of the following behavior issues:
Leash Reactivity, Resource Guarding, Separation Anxiety, Barking, Aggression, Puppy Socialization, Puppy Jumping and Biting, Puppy Potty Training.
Our beloved dog’s do not always behave in the way that we would like, that is certainly true.
It is helpful, in these instances, to understand that your dog is not being stubborn or unloving or naughty but that she is responding to certain environment situations that are either making her feel uncomfortable or are creating reinforcement for her.
At My Dog Spot we use Empowerment Training and Behavior Adjustment Therapy (BAT 2.0 developed and created by Grisha Stewart, MA, CPDT-KA) to teach you, the owner, how to change these environmental set ups so that your dog is able to respond to a situation in a more appropriate way.
In conjunction with Empowerment Training we use reward based training protocols which, for most dogs, means using food as a motivator, however food is and can often (depending on the dog) be replaced by functional reinforcers which means things like going for a walk, being moved away from the scary object etc.
During our sessions we teach you how to communicate more effectively with your pets by ‘decoding’ your dog’s body language for you and teaching you exercises, games and tasks to do with your pet that will create and forge lasting bonds between you.
We teach you leash handling skills where you learn to use the leash as a form of guiding and communicating with your dog rather it being a tool of control and micromanagement.
Allowing your dog to interact/socialize with objects, triggers or environments in a more natural way gives them greater control over their own safety which reduces fear, anxiety and ultimately aggressive displays or behaviors.
Ready to give it a try?
First Step: Reach out to us via the contact form on this website. Give us a few bullet points describing the issue that you are having and we will reply as soon as we can.
Second Step: We will send you an Intake Form with a couple of questions about your dog’s history/ medical history and likes and dislikes. This helps us prepare for our first meeting with you.
Third Step: Because every dog is an individual, just like humans, it is important for us to start with an initial consultation. During this consultation we discuss your pup’s behavioral issues at length. We talk about what might be causing the predominant issues such as potential medical causes eg. acute or chronic pain, environmental or situational changes, schedule changes etc. Then we discuss a management or training plan customized for your particular situation. This may entail daily training sessions, weekly training sessions, or even just irregular sessions where we check in with you to see how you are progressing.
